G. M. COLLIN INTRODUCES HOMME,
DERMO-CORRECTIVE SKINCARE FOR MEN

by Arthur Africano

Long known as a premier skincare line derived mainly from botanical, biotechnological, and marine sources, and used by spas, salons and clinics from Hong Kong to Estonia, G. M. Collin has been caring for women since 1957.  Recently they’ve introduced a new group of products designed for men, the first ever that are dermo-corrective.

Comprised of five key products — a cleansing gel, shaving gel, moisturizing lotion, and both a hydrating cream (for normal skin) and a gel (for normal, combination, oily or sensitive skin) — G. M. Collin Homme is formulated to account for a man’s rougher, thicker skin and higher level of sebum production; it smells light and clean, combining citrus oils with elements like tarragon, mint and coriander. All Homme products are alcohol-free so as not to irritate sensitive, intolerant or damaged skin.

“While men and women share the same desires for skincare, men’s needs are inherently different than women’s,” says Jean Lalonde, Vice President of G.M. Collin Skincare. “Men are minimalists and tend to be more performance-oriented, preferring treatments with immediate results which G. M. Collin delivers.”

In order to deliver those kinds of results, G.M. Collin incorporates new technology like “Nanoemulsion,” which utilizes particles one-tenth the size of a human cell.  Nanoemulsion is essentially a new way to combine ingredients so that, for instance, a small amount of a moisturizer can give a strong result without producing a greasy side effect.

I don’t have a great deal of time to spend on skincare in the morning; Homme is quick and easy to use, requiring no more time than it usually takes to wash and shave.

Moisturizing begins with the cleanser, which contains algae extract, green clay, pro-vitamin B and Aloe Vera. As I rubbed it on, it quickly bubbled up into a light creamy foam that washed cleanly away, leaving my skin looking and feeling fresh.

The shaving gel—which adds chrono-engerizers (copper, zinc, magnesium) and cucumber extract to many of the above elements—produced a rich, thick lather, over which my razor glided easily, yet without compromising a close shave.

The moisturizing lotion did feel slightly oily to me as I sprayed it on, but within seconds of massaging it in, the greasy feeling evaporated from my fingers. Thanks to the shea butter and ginkgo biloba, the moisturizing effect lasted for hours.

Whether you choose the hydrating cream or gel — I chose the gel — the formula includes copper peptides, which attack free-radicals and promote firmer skin by boosting collagen and elastin synthesis. I don’t use heavy colognes, so I appreciated that these last products finished off my shaving regimen with a scent that was light, a little earthy and with a note of citrus.

The Purifying Cleansing Gel sells for around $23, the Shaving Gel $15. The Soothing Moisturizing Lotion runs $28, and both the Hydrating Gel and Cream are priced at $29.50.  A travel kit including all the products totals $80.50.
