Sterling Vinotherapy at Cornelia Day Resort

During the month of May, as buds break on the grape vines at Sterling Vineyards® in Napa Valley, fingers and toes will be treated to a special “vinotherapy” at the Cornelia Day Resort in New York City.

While spa guests savor Sterling Vineyards® wines, the nail specialists at Cornelia will administer the Cornelia Merlot Manicures and Pinot Pedicures.

The Merlot Manicure ($45, 45 minutes) is a “facial” for the hands; it includes filing, gentle exfoliation, cuticle treatment and a massage. While the polish dries at a state-of-the-art drying table, a heated massage pillow will cradle the client’s neck. Choose a brand new color in Merlot or Pinot—Cornelia has blended them especially for this vinotherapy month. Take it home for touch-ups, with her compliments.

The Cornelia Pinot Pedicure ($75, 60 minutes) is therapy for the feet and legs. Clients will relax in a cushy seat while enjoy the pleasures of a warm neck wrap, enveloping essential oils, a soothing leg massage and, of course, the expert pedicure finished with shades of Merlot and Pinot.

Kamalame Cay Opens First Over-Water Spa in Bahamas

The first over-water spa in the Bahamas opened recently at Kamalame Cay, a 19-room, 96-acre private island escape just off Andros Island in the Bahamas Archipelago.

Introduced in early 2006, the 2,000-square-foot Spa is sited at the very end of the new 200-foot Kamalame Pier. Because of this location, clients seem literally to float in any of the five treatment rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows open to the views and the soothing sounds of the surf below. Custom spa packages can include champagne lunches on the Spa’s veranda where yoga sessions are held. The range of programs includes massage, body and facial treatments.

Before and after treatments, diving enthusiasts can tap into a new, fully equipped PADI dive center.

Biotropica, a Bahamian spa product company that takes inspiration from the warm tropical sun, nourishing seawater and deeply scented salt air has provided all-natural body scrubs and oils for an authentic pampering island experience. The treatment menu includes: Bahamian Boreh, Kamalame Coconut Body Glow for Sensitive Skin and Seaweed Botanical Wrap.

Kamalame Cay evokes the romance of the British Empire; throughout the Great House, where guests enjoy evening cocktails and all meals, the furnishings are Bahamian and the art and antiques are 19th century British. The resort has 19 accommodations for two to six people; they range from marina rooms to cottage and villa suites built from native stone and featuring Indonesian furniture, vaulted ceilings, extra large bathrooms with oversized tubs and muslin-draped French doors that open to views of the sea and barrier reef.

Nightly room rates (exclusive of taxes and airport transfer fees) from now through May 31st, range from $740 to $3,620. Rates from June 1-Nov. 30, 2006 range from $561-$2,559. Additionally, Kamalame Cove, a 7,500-square-foot, 4-bedroom accommodation, is available for $4,800 per night year-round. Rates include all food, house wines and spirits, use of snorkeling equipment, sea kayaks, access to tennis and an oceanfront freshwater swimming pool.

The resort is a 20-minute drive from the Andros Town Airport, serviced by charter or scheduled service from Nassau and Fort Lauderdale. Transportation to Kamalame Cay is provided by taxi and a three-minute ferry ride. Once on the Cay, guests have a personal golf cart to explore the property.

Detox Cellulite Therapy at Golden Door

The Golden Door Spa at The Boulders in Scottsdale, AZ, has introduced Detox Cellulite Therapy, a new treatment said to reduce fat and stimulate metabolism for more lasting benefits. The Boulders is the only spa in Arizona to offer this treatment, one of only a handful in the entire country.

Designed exclusively for women, Detox Cellulite Therapy works with the estrogen component and is directed specifically to the loss of cellulite from the tummy area to the knee by isolating fat cells. According to Spa Director Lorraine Park, “Our clients today are more spa savvy than they were several years ago. Many have tried cellulite treatments in the past and found they just didn’t work. What’s exciting about our Detox Cellulite Treatment is that its immediate effect – a tangible loss of inches that allows the client to slip into that body-hugging dress for a special evening out – is complemented by a metabolic boost that can lead to long-term health benefits.”

Detox Cellulite Therapy begins with soft brushing to stimulate the lymphatic system. An “anti-cellulite ampoule” of algae, ivy and vitamins is applied to aid the breakdown of fatty deposits and wastes.  Then, a seaweed-based gel and protein cream is worked into the area to detoxify, tone and firm.  A gentle electric muscle stimulator follows, applied with a warm clay body mask that blends pine and cypress for a deep cleansing effect while producing a more toned, smoother-looking skin surface. The result is said to be an immediate three- to six-inch reduction in fat that lasts from three to four days.

Golden Door Skincare Educator Jeanne Maryak explains that the treatment’s longer term benefits are found in its detoxifying effects. “Today’s junk food diet builds up toxins in the body that create cellulite. Detox Cellulite Therapy gets rid of those toxins and wastes and increases the metabolism, giving spa-goers an encouraging jumpstart on the road to a healthier lifestyle.”

The cost of the 110-minute treatment is $255.00. Products are also available for home use.

Also offered at The Boulders is a new series of spa cooking classes at the resort’s Golden Door Spa. “Light & Easy Cooking Classes” focus on healthful organic cooking and are open to both area residents and resort guests every first Saturday of each month. Hands-on instruction is followed by a cooking demonstration by the resort’s Chef Scott Stubinger and the Spa Nutritionist.  Each guest also receives a copy of The Golden Door Cooks Light & Easy, a chef’s apron, a discount certificate for a spa treatment, complimentary Golden Door lotion and lunch in the Spa Café. The cost is for a 2 ½ hour class is $165 per person.
