WHAT WE ARE

Worldwide Spa Review is an innovation six years in the making: a glossy consumer magazine capitalizing on the Web’s ability to support special effects and searches.

With departments for the various kinds of spa experience – day spas, resort spas, hotel spas, medical spas, cruise ships spas, destination spas, etc. – we feature articles by some of the best writers in the business, vividly painting the experience of each spa.

Our upscale fashion magazine design is enhanced by magical special effects and we archive each issue for a year with an easy click format, so the reviews can be accessed when the reader wants them.

We interview the foremost therapists, spa designers, dermatologists and doctors who are changing the nature of the spa world. Our coverage includes a Spotlight Section (examples include Australia, the Florida Keys and Singapore) and we will add advertorial pages in the January/February issue.

In addition to a dozen or more features in each issue, we have more than 30 items in The Skinny in each issue: spa bargains, promotions and news that drive consumers to our site. Because our content is so rich, consumers connect to us through all sorts of search engine keywords, and our sweepstakes in each issue is a magnet for spa-lovers.

We don’t accept banner or pop-up ads; instead, we showcase full-color ads in three sizes. In addition, we are including day spa combination full-page ads, in each of which up to eight day spas share the limelight and have direct links to their own sites.


MISSION
Our Mission is to provide an upscale magazine with the design of a major glossy print fashion publication, but to keep it online, where consumers are most likely to research spas. In our reviews we give the consumer the ambiance, philosophy and experience of treatments; ideally, a consumer visiting the spa would feel that it was not his or her first time. The editorial content must be of the highest level and the design should bring readers to the site just for the sheer beauty and surprise special effects.

LEADERSHIP
Working with writers around the world who specialize in health and beauty, in sports and active spas, in healing and design, Founders Lillian Africano and Marilyn Green have collectively more than 50 years writing and editing for magazines from New York to Travel and Leisure.

Marilyn Green, Editorial Director/Publisher, is a veteran writer and editor whose work has appeared in newspapers and magazines including Travel and Leisure, Islands, Echelon, British Heritage, Oceans, The New York Post, Trump World and the Louisville Courier-Journal over the past 25 years. A former professional dancer, she has been a spa consultant, and is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers as well as editor of the newsletter for the International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association.  She has served as Senior Editor for Leisure Travel News, Managing Editor for Lloyds of London’s cruise monthly and Features Editor for Travel Trade Magazine, besides publishing hundreds of freelance articles. She recently completed a training module on spas for travel agents for The Travel Institute (formerly ICTA).

Lillian Africano, Editor-in -Chief, is the author of 16 books, including three best-selling novels; co-author of The Doctor's Walking Book (Ballantine) and was editor of Conquering Stress (Pocket, paperback).  Africano has produced spa/fitness/beauty advertorials for New York Magazine for over 10 years). She has contributed articles to major newspapers and magazines, including New York, Reader's Digest, Harper's Bazaar, Ladies' Home Journal, Biography, Woman's Day, American Way, The New York Times, New York Daily News, and the New York Post. She was a weekly columnist for Woman’s World for 17 years and served as Editor of Acupuncture News Digest (for physicians & dentists).  She is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers, the American Society of Journalists and Authors and president of the International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association.

CIRCULATION

Our January 2006 - May 2006 issue’s server statistics are as follows:

PERIOD TOTALS:
- Hits: 2,133,546 (average 14,129 per day)
- Page Views average: 188,312 (average 1,247 per day)
- Kilobytes Transferred: 23,554,712 (average 155,991 per day)
- Unique IPs: 63783 ((average 787 per day)

In our reader’s survey (conducted in the Autumn of 2005) we found that about 96% of traffic is of North American origin, 3% from Europe, and less than 1% from Asia and Australia/New Zealand. 75% of our readers are women. The average reader has an annual household income between 75k and 100k. We are in the process of developing partnerships and promotions with other Web entities, spas, products, etc.


DEMOGRAPHICS

The International Spa Association (ISPA) figures for 2003 show that North American spa-goers’ average income is $72,200; 29% are men, 71% women. Fifty-five percent are college graduates and 62% exercise at least two times a week. On the average, they visit two different spas a year. The 2002 figures show 9,632 spa locations receiving nearly 156 million spa visits, again, in North America alone.


ADVERTISEMENTS
Ads for Spa Review are configured as extra large, large and standard size; the exception is the day spa page, which provides custom design and links for up to eight spas for a sharply reduced rate.

Ads furnished by the client should be sent (preferably on a CD) in TIFF or maximum quality JPG formats.


FREQUENCY AND CLOSING DATES
Worldwide Spa Review is scheduled to publish as a bimonthly through 2005. Our closing dates for materials with completed ads are: February 1 for March/April, April 1 for May/June, June 1 for July/August, August 1 for September/October and October 1 for November/December.

During 2006 we are offering special promotional advertising rates. It should be noted that each issue is archived on the homepage, giving a year of exposure.
