Depth, Dimension, Drama: Spring 2009 Collection from Pür Minerals
by Jean-Marie Pierce --

Pür Minerals

This time of year is all about growth, and yes, vibrant color. Spring into life with the earthy tones of the new collection from Pür Minerals inspired by Arizona's Painted Desert.
"Spring into life with the earthy tones of the new collection from Pür Minerals inspired by Arizona's Painted Desert."

The first product I tried is the Universal Marble Mineral Powder in Spice ($22.50). The mosaic compact features a blend of reddish brown hues ranging from peach to brick-colored and is recommended for deeper skin tones. My light-olive toned skin took well to the product, which I blended along my cheekbones with a stippling brush to create a nice subtle glow. In fact, the powder was so micro-fine, that I hardly had to blend it at all. The product leaves behind a rose pearlescence that could stand alone or be combined with a deep bronzer or blush for added intensity. The versatile powder is also recommended for the eyes and lips.

Next I tried the Mineral Glow/Mineral Light Split Pan ($22.50). The split pan also comes in a purse-friendly silver compact and features a nice toasty bronze powder alongside a neutral beige highlight. The bronzer portion applied flawlessly along my cheekbones, hairline and jaw line with the help of my kabuki brush leaving me with a healthy warmth. The bronzing powder also has a subtle gold shimmer that is dramatic, but not overwhelming. I finished by adding the shimmery beige highlight powder above my cheekbones and on my brow bone. How convenient! The product is advertised as being talc-free and having antioxidants to give flawless coverage. During the spring, I often long for the stronger summer rays to even out my olive skin and give me the feeling of being alive like the blooming natural landscape. But I would trade the sweltering heat of summer for springtime weather any day. I have the best of both worlds with this product. This is perhaps the best bronzing product I have tried to date and will now be a staple product in my makeup bag.

Eye shadow is perhaps my favorite makeup product. The trio of new colors from the Pür Minerals line certainly didn't disappoint. The three shades, Chrome Cryolite, a deep metallic shimmer; Sunlit Gypsum, a pollen-colored shade, and Midnight Jade, a bold forest green; ($13 each) complement each other well. These shades are not akin to the cool-toned, pastels that might come to mind when one thinks of spring, but this is a good thing. Spring is the perfect time to wear deep, warm-toned shades such as these.

I applied Sunlit Gypsum on my eyes inner corners and under the brow bone. Then I smudged some of Midnight Jade along my upper and lower lash line and on my eye crease. I finished by blending the mid-toned Chrome Cryolite to marry the two other shadows. The result, a very vibrant , smoky spring look. The shadows contain mineral mica, which reflects the light, creating a luminous finish, according to Pür Minerals. This was apparent to me, especially with the sunny shade, which is not nearly as yellow on your skin as it looks in its pot. With my yellow undertones, it was nearly neutral. The granite-colored shadow is a very versatile shade that could be used in subtle or dramatic ways depending on your mood. The deep green shadow has an emerald tone that could be used to pop any eye color. The silky consistency of the eye shadow demands a dense makeup brush. The sponge applicator that is provided with each shadow in – get this – an ultra-chic compartment under the shadow with a built-in mirror, also worked well to deposit the fine powder onto my lids.
